DESCRIPTION:
Clock - Chelsea, U.S. Lighthouse Service clock, approximately 5.5 inches round x 2.5 inches deep, nickel-plated brass case, "U.S.L.H. Service" marked dial with small "Chelsea-Boston" marking at bottom, KW, platform lever escapement, s#198742 to mvt, s#198552 to case. Comes with a Chelsea certificate of origin noting this movement serial number's June 29th, 1931 sale to the Superintendent Lighthouse. Comes also with a Certificate of Origin from Chelsea Clock, a winding key, and a recent servicing invoice. We believe the close, but not quite matching, movement and case serial numbers of this example are likely indicative of a depot level rebuild in a military or government facility and are not unusual among this type of clock.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall; dial with fine scratch below winding aperture, some scattered mild spots and mild lesser fine scratches; fine hands, minute with a patch of rust near center; case shows medium wear, profuse oxide and finish loss; good glass crystal.
